Airbnb Adventures

As promised, here are some of the Airbnb accommodations that I stayed in (usually on a monthly basis) during my adventure (over the course of a year, I lived in about 20 different Airbnbs in 19 different towns across the U.S. and Canada, where I spent my time doing freelance work, living like a local, and playing tourist/adventurer). I’m really not surprised that living in new homes on such a frequent basis has been as pleasurable as it has for me. For my whole life, it’s always been a delight for me to explore new lodgings, and I’ve always had a preference for visiting friends and family (vs. hosting). And I’ve always (crazily) really enjoyed the whole process of moving – packing, moving day, unpacking, and settling into new spaces. That transition time has always thrilled me, so the fact that I got to do it at least once a month for the past year was pure joy.

And yes, I realize that all of this makes me slightly insane and likely should be the focus of some analysis at another time, but for now…I digress.

Here is a sampling of my Airbnb lodgings over the course of the last year…

(apologies that this is so messy.  one of the things that I failed to accomplish over the past year is learning HTML.  grrr!!)

  1. Oh, we so agree! We have also spent most of the last year staying at AirBnB rentals for multiple weeks. It’s worked very, very well for us. It’s enabled us to stay at great places for prices we can afford.

All very beautiful places. Did you rent the entire home in all these places?

    • Indeed, yes…each place was an entire home (though the square footage definitely ranged from teeny tiny to full size!). Even though I’m now an adventurer and wanderer, I’m still very much an introvert by nature, so no “room in house” dealios for me! 🙂

  4. It looks like you found some lovely places. Every time we look at airbnb it seems so expensive.

  5. they can definitely be on the pricey side, especially if you look at the daily rate. but monthly tends to be much better. you can also try to connect with the hosts beforehand and see if you can work out an agreement that is mutually beneficial for both parties. for example, many times i wrote to the host and let them know that i’m a single, responsible, female on an adventure, with a limited budget and totally happy to do stuff like extra cleaning, organizing, dog walking etc. if they might consider lowering their cost to something within my range. you would be surprised at how often this worked, and how many kind souls there are in the world!!!!! 🙂
